Cop reportedly commits suicide after murdering woman who visits inmateDecember 10, 2018
Amid various rumours swirling on social media, the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is trying to ascertain what is behind an apparent murder suicide at the Islington Police Station in St Mary on Sunday afternoon, December 9.
The two St Mary residents dead are 25-year-old district constable Toyan Ormsbury from Sandside in Port Maria, and 62-year-old Dawnette Maxwell from Galina.
Based on how the weapon was positioned, it is suspected that the district constable murdered Maxwell and then shot himself.
He died while undergoing treatment at hospital, but the woman drew her last breath on the station compound.
The JCF said: “Detectives continue to interview witnesses and follow other evidentiary leads as they try to piece together the sequence of events that led to the deaths of the two persons.
“They have so far established that the woman went to the Islington Police Station about 1:40pm to visit a prisoner and was seen outside having a conversation with the deceased policeman. Shortly after, explosions were heard and both were seen with gunshot wounds,” the JCF further said.
It stated that its Chaplaincy Unit has been activated to offer grief counselling to all parties affected by the incident, adding that its Community Safety and Security Branch was also directed to offer support.
