A 15-year-old girl died in a controversial shooting incident on Saturday (June 30) near her home at Kiwi Pathway, Seaview Gardens, Kingston 11.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) said the Hunts Bay police are probing the circumstances surrounding the death of Olivia Gonzalez, a student of Tarrant High School.

It further told Jamaica Beacon: “Reports are that, about 9:05pm, Olivia was among a group of friends who were reportedly handling a firearm along the pathway near her home when it allegedly went off, hitting her.”

“The police were summoned and, on their arrival, she was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead. No other injuries were reported,” added the JCF.

Meanwhile, a source who requested anonymity said the child did not have a gun.

“She was picking up Wifi at her gate, and someone fired and she got shot twice,” the source claimed. “When she got shot, they thought she was playing. They told her to get up. She moved a short distance and collapsed.”
