A 55-year-old upholsterer from Toronto in Canada, David Barnes, will appear in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court tomorrow (November 16) on allegations that he tried to smuggle cocaine out of Jamaica.

He is charged with Possession of Cocaine, Dealing in Cocaine, and Attempting to Export Cocaine.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) said police canines assisted in locating the drug after Barnes arrived at the Norman Manley International Airport on Sunday (November 11) to board a flight to Toronto.

“A police canine alerted its handler to one of Barnes’ suitcases where cocaine weighing approximately eight pounds was found,” the JCF claimed, adding that the drug has an estimated street value of JA$4 million.
