Businessman charged for first murder this year in August Town
January 13, 2019As police intensify operations in the August Town area of St Andrew following an upsurge of gang violence, the Criminal Investigations Branch is reporting a breakthrough in one case.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force said a man is now charged for the murder of 34-year-old Omar Johnson from Payton Place, August Town.
He is 32-year-old businessman Marvin Markland, otherwise called Papa, from Goldsmith Villa in the August Town area.
Markland is charged with:
– Murder
– Illegal possession of firearm
– Illegal possession of ammunition
Markland was charged after being formally interviewed in the presence of his lawyer on January 12.
Johnson was killed about 8 o’clock on the morning of January 1.
He reportedly was walking along a roadway in his community when armed men with high-powered rifles shot him several times.
