Three members of the St James Police Division were offered $1M bail each when they appeared in court for allegedly soliciting money to withhold recordings of two men reportedly caught in a compromising position.
The accused are Constables Damian Wilson and Shawn Stewart, and District Constable Jerry Boothe.
The Major Organized Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) said reports are that the male complainants were asleep in a motor vehicle along Kent Road in Montego Bay, St James, on Saturday, August 19.
Three policemen approached them and reportedly took photographs and video recordings of them (the civilians) while they allegedly were in a compromising position.
The law enforcers then solicited $50,000 from the men in order for them to avoid being prosecuted for breaches of the Buggery Act, MOCA claimed.
The complainants reportedly gave the officers $10,000 and made arrangements for the rest to be paid at a later date.
It is alleged that District Constable Boothe subsequently contacted one of the complainants and solicited another $35,000 not to publicise the photos and video that were taken.
The complainants then visited the MOCA-West office where a report was made.
An investigation was conducted and the policemen arrested.
MOCA said, following an Identification Parade where the cops were identified, it charged the trio on September 25 for alleged breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act.
They will return to court on January 17, 2019.
