2 men chased, arrested for 2 gunsJuly 7, 2018
The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) said its officers have recovered two illegal guns – one in St James and the other in St Andrew.
One man has been arrested in relation to each of the finds.
However, charges, so far, have been laid only in the St James incident.
The man charged with illegal possession of firearm is 19-year-old Netovaughn Roshaun Downer, otherwise called Neto, from St Canaan district in Adelphi, St James.
The JCF said: “Reports are that, about 8:30pm [on July 5], a police team was on mobile patrol in the community, when the accused man was accosted after his actions aroused the suspicion of the team.
“He reportedly tried to discard the weapon and escape, but the team gave chase where they observed him removing the weapon from his waistband and throwing it on the ground. He was subsequently apprehended and the weapon – a 9 millimetre Taurus pistol with a magazine containing four rounds – retrieved,” the JCF claimed.
Downer was taken to the police station where he was charged.
Meanwhile, in relation to the other seizure, the JCF explained that the Constant Spring police seized a Browning 9 millimetre pistol, with a magazine containing fourteen 9 millimetre cartridges in Castle Heights, St Andrew.
One man was arrested in connection with this seizure yesterday, July 6.
“Reports from the Constant Spring Criminal Investigations Branch are that, about 10:30pm, a police team was making enquiries in the Castle Heights area when they approached a group of men,” the JCF said.
“One of the men ran and the police gave chase where he was apprehended. He was searched and the firearm with a loaded magazine was taken from his waistband.
“He was taken to the Constant Spring Police Station where he was placed into custody. However, his identity is being withheld pending further investigations,” added the JCF. FILE PHOTO.
