15 guns seized across the island within 3 days

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) yesterday said its officers arrested several people in relation to the seizure of 15 firearms and 140 rounds of ammunition across various parishes within 72 hours.

It gave a breakdown of the seizures, saying:

1) Three firearms were found in Rose Heights, St James. They are a 12 gauge shotgun that was seized along with nine 12 gauge cartridges, as well as two 9 millimetre pistols that were found along with four 9 millimetre rounds of ammunition

2) One 9 millimetre pistol, along with five 9 millimetre rounds of ammunition, was found on Norman Manley Boulevard in Westmoreland

3) Three firearms were found during the state of public emergency in Kingston. They are a Bryco 9 millimetre pistol, and two Berretta 9 milimetre pistols along with thirty-five 9 millimetre rounds of ammunition.

4) One Askel .45 semi-automatic pistol, along with three .45 rounds of ammunition, was seized in St Elizabeth

5) One 9 millimetre Beretta pistol, along with seventeen 9 millimetre rounds of ammunition, was found on Wallen Parkway in St. Catherine

6) One AK-47 rifle was seized on Marie Drive in Waterhouse, Kingston 11

7) One Hi-Point Luger 9 millimetre pistol, along with eight 9 millimetre rounds of ammunition, was found on Williams Street in Kingston

8) One 9 millimetre pistol, along with thirteen 9 millimetre rounds of ammunition, was found along the Four Paths main road in Clarendon

9) One AK-47 rifle, along with twenty-six 5.56 rounds of ammunition, was seized at Land Lease in Papine, Kingston 6

10) One M4 Rifle, containing five rounds of ammunition, was seized during an operation in an area called Zambia in Central Village, St Catherine

11) One Detonics 9 millimetre pistol, along with one magazine and fifteen 9 millimetre cartridges, was seized in Linstead, St Catherine.

Commissioner of Police Antony Anderson

Following the seizures, Commissioner of Police Major General Antony Anderson commended members of the security forces.

“By these seizures, we are all encouraged and we will continue to improve on our investigative capabilities as we serve, protect and reassure the citizens of this country,” he said.

He also urged investigators to be relentless in their pursuit of evidence related to the seizures, adding that the persons responsible for the weapons should be held accountable.

The JCF, in the meantime, said citizens should assist by providing information about illegal activities. They should call the police 119 emergency number, Crime Stop at 311, or the nearest police station.
