The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) said 51-year-old Dean Webb, an auto mechanic from Orange Hill district in St Ann, has been charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol after he was involved in a fatal collision along the Linstead by-pass in the vicinity of Commodore district in St Catherine.
The victim is 43-year-old Denszille Howard, a taxi operator from Marl Road in Kingston 11.
He died as a result of injuries he received in the motor vehicle collision on Sunday, May 27.
The JCF explained: “Reports are that, about 6:50pm, Howard allegedly parked his Toyota Corolla motorcar on the left soft shoulder of the roadway to check on the front wheel of the vehicle when he, as well as his vehicle, was hit by a Toyota Land Cruiser motorcar that was travelling towards Ewarton.”
“Howard was flung into a zinc fence from the impact of the collision. He sustained multiple injuries and was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead,” added the JCF.
“The police were alerted to the scene and a breathalyzer test was conducted for Webb, who is the driver of the Toyota Land Cruiser, which had a positive result for the presence of alcohol.”
Webb is scheduled to appear before the Linstead Parish Court on Monday, June 18.
The JCF said its officers are still probing the matter.
