Fix the gate – JLP rep wants schedule for upkeep of cemetery in Lluidas Vale

Jamaica Labour Party candidate in the Lluidas Vale Division of the St Catherine Municipal Corporation, Joel Williams, has called for a schedule in relation to the upkeep of the cemetery in Lluidas Vale.

He also raised concern about the non-completion of work at the burial site.

“The gate is rotten and is falling to the ground and the driveway is in a deplorable state,” Williams said in a letter sent to The Beacon along with photos showing the areas of concern.

He noted that a clean-up operation was done at the cemetery last month shortly after he publicly announced that the site would have been his Labour Day project.

Monique Brown, administrative assistant to Councillor Hugh Graham of the Lluidas Vale Division, had announced that the operation was being carried out by Graham.

Graham however stated that the work was undertaken by the St Catherine Municipal Corporation in which he has membership. He also noted that the Corporation is the entity responsible for upkeep of public cemeteries.

The Lluidas Vale Cemetery, prior to Labour Day, was in a deplorable condition for years.

To prevent the site from again becoming an eyesore, Williams is seeking to find out the time frame for future clean-ups.

“We look forward to an urgent response from Mr Graham or representative from the parish council in regards to plans going forward for the restoration and maintenance of the cemetery.”

Williams continued: “Myself, along with the citizens of Lluidas Vale, is requesting information in regards to the schedule date of completion for the cleaning and restoration of the cemetery as there has been nothing more done after Labour Day.”
