A member of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), Javaugnie Lewis, died today after he suffered serious head injuries when the service vehicle in which he was travelling slammed into a utility pole at Grange Hill, Westmoreland.
The accident, which claimed the life of the St Ann native, unfolded shortly after 9 o’clock last evening, February 10.
Information reaching The Beacon is that Lewis, who was on duty, was travelling with other soldiers to pick up a police officer at Whithorn Police Station.

The driver allegedly swerved to avoid hitting a manhole, but lost control of the JDF vehicle, which crashed into a utility pole.
Lewis fell from the vehicle and suffered serious head injuries.
He was taken to the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital, and later transferred to a medical facility in the Corporate Area where he was pronounced dead a few hours before daybreak today.

Lewis is a former Deputy Head Boy of Marcus Garvey Technical High School in St Ann. He graduated from that institution in 2015.
