
St Ann soldier dies tragically while on duty in Westmoreland
February 11, 2019A member of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), Javaugnie Lewis, died today after he suffered serious head injuries when the service vehicle in which he was travelling slammed into a utility pole at Grange Hill, Westmoreland.
The accident, which claimed the life of the St Ann native, unfolded shortly after 9 o’clock last evening, February 10.
Information reaching The Beacon is that Lewis, who was on duty, was travelling with other soldiers to pick up a police officer at Whithorn Police Station.

The driver allegedly swerved to avoid hitting a manhole, but lost control of the JDF vehicle, which crashed into a utility pole.
Lewis fell from the vehicle and suffered serious head injuries.
He was taken to the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital, and later transferred to a medical facility in the Corporate Area where he was pronounced dead a few hours before daybreak today.
Lewis is a former Deputy Head Boy of Marcus Garvey Technical High School in St Ann. He graduated from that institution in 2015.
