The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) said the body of a St Thomas woman who disappeared after reportedly leaving home for church has been found partially nude in a river in the parish.

She is 21-year-old Abina Bertram, otherwise called Tashell, from Industry Hill district in the Leith Hall area.

The JCF said: “Reports from the Morant Bay Police are that, about 1PM yesterday, July 19, residents stumbled upon the body faced-down in a stream. On arrival of the police, it was seen partially nude with wounds to the forehead and its hands bound.” The corpse eventually was removed to the morgue.

A man has been arrested in relation to the woman’s disappearance, the JCF said, adding that his identity is being withheld pending further investigations.

The JCF, in the meantime, said Bertram went missing on Sunday, July 14, after leaving home about 10AM to attend a church in Morant Bay.

She, at that time, was wearing a black tank top, pink jacket, floral skirt and a pair of black shoes.
