Young men score perfect grades in 9 CXC subjects at Denbigh High
August 19, 2019Denbigh High School in Clarendon has been rising fast academically, as evidenced in the results being attained by a number of its students.
Those students include three young men who have achieved the best grade possible (Grade One) in nine CSEC subjects, administered by the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC).
They are Omarion Pusey, Kevoy Townsend, and Gerjon Smith.
The young scholars, in separate interviews, said they intend to enroll in the sixth form programme at their 50-year-old alma mater, which actually became a high school in 2000.
Gerjon Smith
Gerjon, whose eyes are fixed on becoming a surgeon and an entrepreneur, said he is proud of his performance.
“I feel proud about my results because I worked endlessly,” he said, adding that he is grateful to God, and to his teachers, friends and relatives who believed in him. “I think I attained such amazing results because I have the best support team,” Gerjon posited.
He decimated these subjects:
- Mathematics – Grade One
- Technical Drawing – Grade One
- English A – Grade One
- Agricultural Science – Grade One
- Chemistry – Grade One
- Information Technology – Grade One
- Biology – Grade One
- Industrial Technology Building – Grade One
Gerjon, who hails from the community of Hayles in Clarendon, is a past student of Hayes Primary and Junior High School.
Omarion Pusey
Omarion, a resident of Kemps Hill in Clarendon, attributed his superb performance in nine subjects to the late nights he spent studying, as well as the guidance he got from God and his teachers.
He reaped success in the following subjects:
- English A – Grade One
- Geography – Grade One
- Agricultural Science – Grade One
- Information Technology – Grade One
- Mathematics – Grade One
- Office Administration – Grade One
- Chemistry – Grade One
- Biology – Grade One
- Industrial Technology Building – Grade One
“I am very proud about my results and relieved at the same time,” Omarion told The Beacon.
He further stated that, although he is now uncertain about what he wants to become, his childhood dream was to become a pilot.
He is a past student of Race Course Primary School in Clarendon.
Kevoy Townsend
Kevoy, a past student of York Town Primary, said his childhood dream was to become a race-car driver, but he is now seriously considering medicine.
He, this year, earned success in the following subjects:
- English A – Grade One
- Biology – Grade One
- Information Technology – Grade One
- Physics – Grade One
- Agricultural Science – Grade One
- Geography – Grade One
- Chemistry – Grade One
- Industrial Technology – Grade One
- Additional Mathematics – Grade Three
Although Kevoy did not get the best grade possible in Additional Mathematics, he attained Grade One in CSEC Mathematics last year.
“I feel very excited and satisfied with the results I have obtained,” Kevoy told The Beacon.
He added: “I think I obtained these results because of the long hours I put into studying, and the effort made by my teachers to ensure that we were fully prepared for the exams.”
