The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has declared that, while it insists on professionalism being extended to members of the public, it is reminding civilians to adhere to the instructions of police officers.

It made the comments while announcing that the Inspectorate of Constabulary is probing an incident partly captured in a video being circulated on social media.

In the video, a police constable ordered a motorist out of a vehicle to have him arrested seemingly for not having his driver’s licence.

The motorist insisted that he cannot be legally arrested for such an offence.

When the motorist refused to exit his SUV, the constable pepper-sprayed him.

The motorist, who turned out to be retired deputy Superintendent of police Altemorth ‘Parro’ Campbell, was transporting his son to school at the time of the incident, which unfolded on Molynes Road in St Andrew.

The JCF, in a statement this afternoon, June 7, said: “Motorists are being advised to adhere to the instructions of police officers when stopped for traffic checks or violations. The [JCF] High Command insists on professionalism being extended to members of the public.”
