St Ann man among 2 charged after drug bust in Westmoreland

A resident of St Ann is among two persons charged after Jamaica Defence Force coastguard intercepted a vessel off the coast of Negril, Westmoreland, on Tuesday, October 22.

The accused are 32-year-old Perry Denmark from Runaway Bay in St Ann, and 36-year-old taxi operator Shamar Hamilton from Smithfield in Westmoreland.

They are jointly charged with Possession of Ganja, Dealing in Ganja, Taking Steps Preparatory to Export Ganja, as well as Conspiracy and Use of Conveyance

The JCF said: “Reports are that, about 3PM, the vessel was searched and approximately 650 pounds of compressed ganja were found on board. The drug has an estimated street value of JMD2.6 million.”

Hamilton and Denmark are scheduled to appear in the Westmoreland Parish Court on Wednesday, October 30.
