A St Ann businesswoman, Janet Hardie-Lawrence, who spent nearly 20 years searching for her missing son, was shot dead during a domestic dispute at her home in St Mary this morning, May 28.

Initial reports are that Hardie had a dispute with a male relative and then left home to take her teenage son to school. When she returned home, she was surprised by gunshots.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force, in the meantime, confirmed that there was a shooting incident.

In a voice note being circulated on social media, a man said to be the suspected shooter claimed that Hardie was ‘tormenting’ his life, adding that he reported the matter to the police up to last night. He added that the police visited the premises to speak with Hardie. “This morning, mi haffi kill her,” the suspected killer said.

Hardie, who is married to a police officer, owns a business in St Ann’s Bay.

She was the first person to appear in The Beacon’s Miss People feature.
