While commending its officers for what it said is their quick response to a robbery in Clarendon yesterday, May 26, the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) said the robbers were eventually intercepted, but they escaped with cash amounting to more than $3 million.

They also escaped from the scene at Guinep Tree in May Pen with:

  • One Iphone 10 valued at JA$130,000
  • One Iphone 6 valued at JA$80,000

The JCF claimed that, based on reports from the May Pen Police, officers were approaching the supermarket about 9:30AM when they were engaged in a confrontation with gunmen.

“The gunmen, in a bid to escape, used the operator of the supermarket as a shield, and made their escape in three motor cars – one of which was stolen from the scene of the robbery. Two of the vehicles were intercepted and the gunmen abandoned the vehicles,” said the JCF.

It further stated that the items recovered include:

  • One Remington shotgun
  • Three M16 magazines
  • One 9 millimetre magazine
  • Four hundred and ninety-six thousand dollars

The JCF, in the meantime, said the two officers who were shot and wounded during the incident were taken to hospital for treatment.

One remains in serious condition while the other was treated and released.
