The opposition People’s National Party (PNP) has lost another of its senior members who was set to represent the organization in the next general election.

Rudyard Mears, also called Kippy, who was the party’s candidate in St Catherine South West seat, died of natural cause hours before daybreak today, March 29.

He, in the last general election, lost to the long-standing Member of Parliament Everald Warmington of the Jamaica Labour Party.

President of the PNP Dr Peter Phillips, in a social media post, said Mears will be missed.

Mears is at least the third PNP constituency standard-bearer to have died since the last general election.

Member of Parliament for Portland Eastern Dr Lyndale Bloomfield was murdered on February 2 this year; Member of Parliament for St Mary South-Eastern Dr Winston Green died of natural cause in hospital in August 2017.
