Northern Queens Football Club, which comprises females mainly from the Linstead and Ewarton areas of St Catherine, emerged with a draw from their first ever encounter in the Jamaica Football Federation Women’s Premier League and Knockout Competition.

They played to a 1-1 scoreline on Saturday, August 24, in an away match against the University of the West Indies (UWI).

UWI scored in the 75th minute, and Northern Queens found the equalizer in the 81st.

The scorer for Northern Queens, Theanna Burnett, pictured above, said the game was highly competitive, adding that the squad managed to secure the draw due to teamwork.

In the meantime, Clement Dehaney, who manages Northern Queens, told The Beacon: “A draw away from home is always a great feeling. Our performance was greater than I expected; the girls rise to the occasion and I’m very happy with their performance.”

Dehaney further stated that he expects the girls to do their best at 3:30PM on Wednesday, August 28, when they face Cavaliers at the sports complex in Ewarton, St Catherine.

“Wednesday will be our home game against Cavaliers at Ewarton; I think that game will be a tougher game, but we going out there to do our best again,” he declared.
