Manslaughter | Cops to be charged for death of man travelling to Linstead

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has ruled that two police officers – ‪Corporals Kirk Fraser and Rhamone Scott – should be charged with manslaughter – not murder, arising from the death of Kevron Burrell.

When Kevron lost his life on Saturday night, April 27, he was heading towards Linstead in St Catherine to attend a nine night for his first cousin – Kevar Burrel – who died tragically on March 18 while driving a truck at work.

Kevron, who was attending the nine night with other relatives and friends, died after the silver motorcar he was driving crashed under controversial circumstances in Spanish Town.

It crashed with a white AD Wagon, in which ‪Corporals Fraser and Scott – along with the late Corporal Rohan Williams – allegedly were trying to escape from law enforcers after reportedly committing a gun murder.

At the time Kevron died, there initially were speculations as to whether he died as a result of the motor vehicle collision, or as a result of a shooting that was underway between the escaping police officers and other cops.

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), in a press release at the time, said Kevron died of gunshot wounds.

However, a subsequent post mortem reportedly showed that Kevron actually died from blunt-force trauma to the neck. That cause of death appears consistent with a motor vehicle crash.

INDECOM, in a press release today, May 17, said the DPP has ruled that, in relation to the death of Kevron, Corporals Fraser and Scott should be charged – not with the more serious offence of murder, but with manslaughter ‘arising from the motor vehicle collission’.

In the meantime, the DPP ruled that the two police officers be charged with various other offences not directly linked to the death of Kevron.

Those offences includes the gun murder of businessman Sheldon ‘Junior Biggs’ Daley.

It is alleged that ‪Corporals Fraser, Scott and Williams murdered Daley.

Shortly afterwards, they were being pursued by an off-duty cop when they – during a high speed chase – crashed with the vehicle transporting Kevron and others to the nine night in Linstead.

In the meantime, ‪Corporals Fraser and Scott were on two different murder charges prior to allegedly murdering Daley, and later reportedly killing Kevron in the crash.
