The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) said its officers at Adelphi Police Station have charged a man in relation to the death of a 74-year-old woman who died after being set ablaze in her community on April 25.

The man charged with murder is Nickala Facey, otherwise called ‘Oil Mine’, an unemployed resident of Lima in St James.

The deceased woman is Evelyn Blair – also from Lima district.

The JCF today said: “Reports are that, about 6AM, Ms Blair was walking along the roadway in her community when she was approached and attacked by Facey, who had reportedly broken into her home earlier.

“He poured gasoline on her and set her on fire, before making his escape in the area. She was taken to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where she was admitted with burn affecting 98 percent of her body. She died on Saturday, April 27,” the JCF further said.

It continued: “On Saturday, June 4, Facey surrendered to the police. He was positively identified during an identification parade on Saturday, June 8, and was later charged following a question and answer session on Sunday, June 9. His court date will be announced at a later date.”
