Lluidas Vale surges into semi-finals!

Odaine Shaw was in top form as his heroics helped to send Lluidas Vale Sporting Academy through to the semi-finals of the St Catherine Under-17 Football Competition.

Lluidas Vale, in regulation time, played to a 0-0 draw with the high-riding Caymanas Gardens Football Club at Ewarton Sports Complex yesterday afternoon, July 16.

Shaw, who captains Lluidas Vale, put his skills to work outfield throughout regulation time, but put on his gloves in the dreaded penalty shootout, saving three of the balls directed at his goal.

He also scored the final of the three penalties his team netted. The other two Lluidas Vale scorers were Jaheem Morrison and Roshawn Bailey.

Manager of the Lluidas Vale team, Jacques Small, stated that, although his players missed a number of chances during regulation time, he is elated about the outcome.

“We squandered numerous opportunities, but still managed to finish the game not conceding any goals [in regualtion time]. The players are overwhelmed with the whole idea that the team is fairly young and progressing so well.

“We haven’t played competitive football for a very long time, so these players have no experience in playing organized football. This speaks volume to the talent that is in and around the Lluidas Vale area, and they are just crying out for the opportunity – for the exposure, and finally something like this has come around. They are making good use of it,” Small told The Beacon.

He further said the performance of the Under-17 squad has inspired the younger team that is now in training.

Small stated that, going forward, the Lluidas Vale team intends to become more focused for longer periods during the games. “We just need to stay focused, concentrate for longer periods – and the title is likely to be ours,” he said.

Lluidas Vale’s next match will be at 4PM on Friday, July 19, against Black Lion at the Owen Palmer Community Centre.
