People’s National Party (PNP) election candidate for St Catherine North West, Hugh Graham, on Mother’s Day, hosted what is arguably the biggest treat for mothers in the parish – and perhaps the entire island.

More than 200 mothers showed up at the Juici Patty plaza in Linstead, St Catherine, to bask in the special merriment, which carried a price tag of more than $1 million – covered by Graham.

The politician, who disclosed the figure during an interview with The Beacon, said the attendees came from all four electoral divisions in the constituency – Treadways, Linstead, Ewarton, and of course Lluidas Vale, which Graham represents in the St Catherine Municipal Corporation. Most guests were from Linstead.

Graham said his guests were treated to à la carte dining, which essentially means that they were able to order individual dishes from a menu, as opposed to being served a set menu.

The mothers – served with crockery, silverware and glasses, and tumblers – had wine cake for dessert. They also had fruit plates.

The rich blend of entertainment, in the meantime, comprised music by Charlemont High School Band, games such as bingo, and giveaway of various prizes such as television sets, clothes, phone cards, iron, gift baskets donated by Carimed & Sampars Limited, as well as roses for moms.

While the mothers basked in the merriment, they also received uplifting words from the guest speaker, Catherine Goodhall, who is the Development Manager at Grace Kennedy.

Other high-profile attendees included Member of Parliament for St Catherine North West Robert Pickersgill, sprinter Christopher Taylor and his mother Pauline Angus, the PNP constituency executive, as well as PNP councillors Sydney Rose and Herbert Garriques.

Graham, a successful businessman who drives a Lamborghini these days, thinks he has made a solid statement – mothers deserve the best!
