LINSTEAD: Charlemont expels nearly 10 girls after street fightDecember 1, 2019
Charlemont High School in Linstead, St Catherine, has sent a strong message against indiscipline, expelling nearly 10 of the girls who were involved in a nasty fight near the institution on November 8, The Beacon has confirmed.
The expulsions were decided a few days ago following investigations by the school, and after the students initially were suspended.
The students expelled reportedly includes the one who fainted and was hospitalized moments after the fight, which was captured partly in widely circulated amateur videos.
Her mother however told The Beacon this morning that she is yet to be informed about any expulsion.
The student who was hospitalized, in the meantime, is no longer living on the island due to what is said to be security concern. Her mother also lives abroad.
Most of the students expelled have a history of misbehaving.
Regarding the incident, it is understood that two groups of girls started to quarrel on the school compound.
The senior vice principal, in an attempt to quell the dispute, managed to hold a discussion in her office with one of the groups – including the student who ended up being hospitalized.
That, however, did not stop the students from engaging each other in a physical clash on Charlemont Road, just outside the educational institution. The real reason for the dispute remains unclear to The Beacon.
