Sherissa Gallimore, who will celebrate her 17th birthday tomorrow, has brought pride and joy to her farming community of Mason River, located in the Kellits area of Clarendon.

Her mother, Samantha Gallimore, told The Beacon that she is ecstatic to be witnessing her daughter’s academic success and perseverance, despite the financial constraints the family sometimes experiences.

“We are farmers and, where we are from, it is not easy,” the mother explained. “Sometimes the crops don’t sell, but the little that Sherissa gets doesn’t worry her. She only knows that she is going to school to achieve something – and she did through God’s blessing.”

The mother, who said her husband Devon Gallimore is highly supportive of his daughter, promised to continue ensuring that Sherissa gets a sound education.

“I am very proud of her; I always push her to do her best…” she said. “I only went as far as primary school, so I want only the best for her.”

Sherissa recently left Clarendon College with nine CSEC subjects, administered by the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC).

These are her results:

  • English A – Grade One
  • Mathematics – Grade Two
  • Principles of Accounts – Grade One
  • Principles of Business – Grade One
  • English B (Literature) – Grade Two
  • Information Technology – Grade One
  • Office Administration – Grade One
  • Economics – Grade Two
  • Electronic Document Preparation and Management – Grade One

Sherissa, whose dream is to become an accountant, is elated that she was able to score the best grade possible (Grade One) in six of the subjects.

“I feel elated about the results because the exams were very hard,” she told The Beacon. “I put out every effort to get the subjects all in Grade Ones, but I thank God for everything I got.”

Sherissa, who will attend sixth form at Clarendon College, is a past student of Staceyville Primary School in the Sandy River area of Clarendon.
