EWARTON: Former politician lauded ahead of funeral

Edris Claire Thompson, a former Councillor who in the 1980s represented the Ewarton Division in St Catherine North West, is to be laid to rest on Sunday, November 25.

She passed away at her home in Ewarton on November 7 after a period of illness, her family told The Beacon, adding that she was 83.

Claire Thompson, from all accounts, was small in size but large in generosity.

“She was a giver; not a taker,” said her daughter, Diane Thompson-Henry, who spoke on behalf of the bereaved family.

She further said: “My mother’s desire was to effect change – to be a voice for the people. She served selflessly and with integrity, providing help to everyone regardless of their party preference.”

Claire Thompson, who was a member of the Jamaica Labour Party, eventually resigned from representational politics, her daughter said.

She will be laid to rest at Dovecott Memorial Park on Sunday (November 25) after a funeral service at Ewarton Seventh Day Adventist Church, starting at 10 o’clock in the morning.

Claire Thompson died leaving four great-grandchildren, 18 grandchildren, and four children – Roydell English, Courtney Thompson, Corren Thompson-Walford, and Diane Thompson-Henry. Her stepson is Norman Thompson. Claire Thompson’s husband, Lloyd Thompson, predeceased her.
