The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) said its officers have expressed confidence that they are closing in on the two men who murdered a security guard, who worked at the public transportation centre in Ocho Rios, St Ann – across from Ocho Rios Police Station.

Jermaine Jones, 25, from Jeffery Town in St Mary, was shot in broad daylight when he challenged two men who were robbing him.

The JCF added: “The facts are that, on the 3rd of July 2019, about 1:40PM, Jones was at the exit area of the bus park when two men held him up and robbed him of cash. When Jones tried to resist, he was shot in the neck. He was taken to hospital where he succumbed on the 6th July.”

No one has been arrested for the crime.

In the meantime, the St Ann Municipal Corporation, which operates the bus park where Jones worked, participated in a candlelight vigil, which was held in memory of the slain security guard after nightfall on Monday, July 15.

“We are deeply saddened by the untimely passing of our colleague Jermaine Jones,” said the Corporation, headed by Michael Belnavis.

Belnavis, along with residents and other members of the political directorate, gathered in the Ocho Rios town centre for the event.

They later marched to the transportation centre where a prayer vigil was held in Jones’ honour.

The resort town of Ocho Rios, in the meantime, is fast developing a reputation of robberies, perpetrated mainly by young men using guns and knives.
