Boy struck by lightning transferred to KPH
September 11, 2019The 13-year-old boy, Masters Dacres, who was taken to Linstead Public Hospital in St Catherine after being struck by lightning on Sunday afternoon (September 8) has been transferred to Kingston Public Hospital (KPH).
“His foot is swelling; doctors are treating him because it could affect his kidney,” said Kadean Dacres, sister of the injured boy.
“He is talking; I am hoping and praying for the best,” she added while noting that she is not sure if the injuries are life-threatening.
Kadean further told The Beacon that she did not expect any of her brothers to be injured by lightning, let alone killed. “When I heard the news, I was shocked,” she declared.
The child now hospitalized and his 15-year-old brother, Jahnoy Dacres, were struck by lightning while they picked guineps in their community of Bamboo Ridge in Glengoffe, St Catherine.
Jahnoy, who was also taken to Linstead Public Hospital, eventually died.
Both brothers, up to the time of the incident, attended Glengoffe High School in St Catherine and lived with their father Lloyd Dacres.
Their mother, Sandra Shand, lives in Linstead – also in St Catherine.
“We all are mourning,” Kadean said.
