UPDATE: Robbers murder another woman in Linstead
April 7, 2019For the second time in less than a month, a woman has been shot dead in what appears to be robbery in the Linstead area of St Catherine.
The latter incident unfolded shortly after 7 o’clock last evening, April 6, at a shop near Linstead Primary and Junior High School.
The deceased woman is 30-year-old Alicia Miller from Charlemont Housing Scheme in Linstead, the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) told The Beacon.
As previously reported here, the male operator of the shop, who graduated from Charlemont High School a few years ago, was also shot. He is still in hospital.
The JCF said: “Reports are that, about 7:15PM, the woman (Miller) was at a shop in the community when armed men entered and robbed her of a sum of money, and shot her several times. The man, who was also in the shop, was also shot and injured when he tried to intervene. The robbers reportedly escaped in a motorcar.”
The JCF said investigations are continuing.
In the meantime, on March 10 this year, another woman was shot and killed during what appears to be another case of robbery also in Linstead.
She is 33-year-old shopkeeper Verona Slack, also called Trudy, from Victoria district.
The JCF previously stated that Slack was gunned down about 9:30PM while she walked to her house in Victoria. The killer escaped.
Reports are that the handbag Slack was taking home from her shop was not found at the crime scene.
