Shop operator shot dead in St James

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) said its detectives in St James are probing the shooting death of a man at his home at Canaan district.

The deceased is 38-year-old shop operator Omar Melville from Canaan district in Dumfries.

The JCF said: “Reports from the Adelphi Police are that, about 9:15PM [on March 27], Melville was inside his shop when he was pounced upon by armed men travelling in a motor car – one of whom alighted and opened fire, hitting him. The police were alerted and he was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.”

Investigations are continuing, the JCF added.
