Detectives in Falmouth are probing the shooting death of a man and the wounding of a woman on Market Street in the Trelawny capital last evening, March 20.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) said the deceased is 76-year-old Albert Mowatt, a security guard and retired District Constable from Rock district in Falmouth.

The JCF added: “Reports from the Falmouth Police are that, about 7:30PM, Mowatt was at a shop when two armed men entered and attempted to rob him. A struggle ensued during which Mowatt was shot and relieved of his licensed .38 Revolver.

“The police were alerted and, upon their arrival, Mowatt’s body was seen with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest. The scene was processed and the body removed to the morgue,” added the JCF, which noted that investigations are continuing.

It said the wounded woman has been admitted to hospital.
