The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) said it has been plunged into mourning following the suspected suicide of a senior police officer at Mango Walk Boulevard in St James yesterday, July 20.

Reports are that a friend found Senior Superintendent of Police Dermot Lawrence hanging by a length of rope at his home shortly after sunset. He served in western Jamaica for many years.

Commissioner of Police Major General Antony Anderson, in a press statement, offered condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased.

He disclosed that the JCF Chaplaincy Unit and the Community Safety and Security Branch have been directed to provide support to the late officer’s family and colleagues.

“We mourn the loss of SSP Lawrence, whose work ethic and discipline were a blueprint of excellence in policing. His 37 years of distinguished service to the Force and country spanned postings across multiple geographic divisions, which have benefited enormously from his input,” said the Police High Command headed by the commissioner.
