The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) said senior investigators from its Major Investigation Division are leading an investigation into the death of Dr Lyndale Bloomfield, Member of Parliament for Portland Eastern.

The medical doctor was found dead at his home in Paisley Gardens, Portland, about 10:30 this morning, February 2.

“Investigators are now processing the scene and additional updates will follow,” the JCF said.

Other sources have disclosed that the Member of Parliament, who first won the seat for the People’s National Party (PNP) in 2011, was stabbed.

The PNP said it is ‘shocked, shaken and saddened’ by the murder, adding that it wants the perpetrators to be brought to justice swiftly.

This is the second PNP parliamentarian to have died since the last general election.

The first was Member of Parliament for St Mary South Eastern, Dr Winston Green, who died of natural causes in hospital in August 2017.
