A 20-year-old national footballer, Tarania Clarke, otherwise called Plum Plum, has been stabbed to death during a dispute over a cellular telephone.

The incident happened in Half Way Tree, Kingston 10, last evening, October 31.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) said: “Reports from the Half Way Tree Police are that, about 8:50PM, both women who were acquaintances had a dispute over a cell phone.

“During the altercation, a knife was used to stab Clarke. She was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. The other female has been taken in custody by the police,” added the JCF, which noted that investigations are continuing.

Clarke was also the captain for Excelsior High School Girls Football team.

Fayval Williams, Member of Parliament for St Andrew Eastern that includes Clarke’s community of Backbush, said the area is in mourning.

“I am still stunned that someone so talented with so much in her future lay dead, stabbed by someone she knows. Oh God. Her mother, Ms Tete, is devastated. The whole Backbush community mourns this morning. How could this be? Unreal!” Williams said.
