The Jamaica Constabulary Force said a mechanic from Rural Retreat in Claremont, St Ann, is suspected to have committed suicide on the compound of the public hospital in the parish yesterday, February 1.

He is Lenworth Smith, 53.

The JCF said: “Reports from the St Ann’s Bay Police are that, about 2:30pm, passersby stumbled upon his body and alerted them. On their arrival, it was seen lying on the ground under a tree with marks around the neck on the compound of the St Ann’s Bay hospital. A belt was also seen hanging from one of the tree branches. The scene was processed and the body removed to the morgue.”

Investigations are continuing, added the JCF.

That incident brings to at least seven, the number of persons suspected to have committed suicide locally since the start of the year.
