Manchester principal wins JTA election

Principal of Manchester High School in Mandeville, Jasford Gabriel, is the new President Elect designate of the Jamaica Teachers Association (JTA).

He secured an overwhelming majority of votes cast in elections held from June 12-21.

The other two contestants are Lasonja Harrison who is the Interim Principal at St Faiths’ Primary in St Catherine, and Winston Smith who is the Principal at Golden Spring Primary in St Andrew.

The JTA, in a media release last night, said the preliminary results of the contest are:

  • Jasford Gabriel – 6500 votes
  • Lasonja Harrison – 1582 votes
  • Winston Smith – 3209 votes

The JTA stated that Gabriel, being the winner, will be officially proclaimed at the opening of the JTA’s Annual Conference in Montego Bay on Monday, 19 August 2019.
