More than 100 residents of Lluidas Vale district in St Catherine received food packages with items such as flour, rice, sugar and tinned food ahead of Christmas 2018.

The Lluidas Vale Rehabilitation and Development Foundation, Canadian Chapter, headed by Timothy Escoffery, provided the items.

These are some of the persons who showed up at Lluidas Vale Primary School to collect food packages

A member of the Foundation, Leonard Francis, who is usually in Jamaica for Christmas, said the group provided about CA$1,000 for the items to be purchased here in Jamaica.

Local residents later packaged and distributed the items.

“The people are very receptive; we distributed more than 100 packages,” Francis told The Beacon.

He further stated that recipients include shut-ins, the elderly, people with special needs, and those who are genuinely in need.

Francis said the Foundation has been making the Christmas donations for some 10 years.

He added that the group, which comprises about 30 active members, also makes several other donations throughout the year to groups in Lluidas Vale – including Lluidas Vale Primary School, which was used this month as the distribution centre for people collecting food packages.
