Residents of Arthur Seat in the Croft’s Hill area of Clarendon have urged the authorities to install more street lights in their rural community.

“Some street lights needed pon di road,” a female resident said during a public meeting held at Arthur Seat Community Centre on the evening of October 3.

Member of Parliament (MP) Horace Dalley, who hosted the meeting, told residents that issues regarding street lights are not his responsibility.

“Street lights are for the councillor; I am not in charge of street light,” he said.

The MP explained that property taxes and a portion of the fees collected for motor vehicle licenses are sent to the Ministry of Local Government to be spent on street lights and parochial roads. “Councillors get money too,” he added.

The residents, in response, said they are not seeing their councillor, Anthony O’Connor, and so cannot inform him about the issues they want addressed in their community.

“Mi naah si di councillor, sir,” one resident told the MP, while raising concern about the condition of some of the few street lights that already are in the community. “Some a di light dem all a drop dung,” the resident lamented.
