The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) said members of its Narcotics Division seized approximately 1,300 pounds of compressed ganja during an operation along the Water Wheel main road in Cave district, Westmoreland, yesterday, July 30.

The JCF said 170 parcels of marijuana were found during a search of a truck, which was used by the suspects.

The driver and three occupants of the truck attempted to escape, but were pursued and caught. Their identities are being withheld, pending further investigations.

The JCF, in explaining the movie-like operation, said:

Reports are that, about 1:40PM, a Freightliner truck, which was suspected to have been carrying the illicit drug was signalled by lawmen to stop.

The driver disobeyed, sped off and was pursued by the police.

A roadblock was established by lawmen, when occupants of the truck opened gunfire at the police which was returned.

The driver began using the truck as a weapon and made several attempts to mow down the officers.

The truck subsequently crashed into a Toyota Voxy motorcar occupied by police officers.

The driver continued his wreckless attempts to escape when the truck crashed into an Isuzu motor truck, injuring its occupants.

The truck eventually crashed into a Toyota Camry motor car and then into a perimeter fence.

Subsequently, the driver and three occupants of the truck attempted to escape and were pursued and caught.
