After serving in the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) for 17 years, Kevin Ricardo Hill migrated to the Cayman Islands four years ago.

The native of Highgate in St Mary, however, has not forgotten his roots and the beauty in sharing especially with children.

“Even when I was in the JDF, I was often approached by individuals – especially kids for money to go to school. On several visits to Jamaica, I was asked by children for materials to go to school,” Hill told The Beacon.

He, in May of this year, formed the DJ Hill Foundation after realizing that the need was great and he could not adequately respond on his own.

“Through this foundation, sponsors came on board to enable some of the needs to be met,” Hill explained.

Some 15 students, so far, have benefitted signifcantly from the foundation.

Hill recently returned to his hometown, where he distributed items such as books, school bags, footballs, school shoes, pencils, pens, geometry sets, watches, panties, underpants, socks, crayons, and pencil crayons.

“The response was overwhelming,” he told The Beacon. “The children who benefited were really appreciative and, based on their expressions, it was evident that they needed these supplies.”

Hill, who is a youth support worker with the Children And Youth Services Foundation in the Cayman Islands, intends to continue giving back to his Jamaican hometown.

“I plan on doing it (the giveaways) annually. With more sponsors on board, I plan to expand it to cater to more students and distribute giveaways through an annual fun day,” he said.
