The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) said an eight-year-old student died in St James yesterday after being hit by a motor vehicle on the compound of a school.

The Corporate Communications Unit of the JCF declined to name the school, but other sources said the incident happened at Anchovy Primary, and the motorist involved is a teacher.

According to the JCF, the deceased child is Easton Stapleton from Belmont district in the parish.

It stated that, about 3:50pm, the child was picking up his bag in the schoolyard when a vehicle allegedly got out of control and hit him.

He received injuries to the head and face, and was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
