No murder in Guy’s Hill | Top Cop bemoans shortage of resources

Acting head of the Guy’s Hill Police Station, Corporal Samantha Brown-Thompson, said police officers would be far more effective and efficient if they had more resources to fight sexual offences and other crimes.

She however noted that, so far this year, no murder has been reported in the Guy’s Hill area.

“Jamaica is riddled by too many incidents of crime. In St Catherine North, for example, we have recorded for the year to date 80 murders in comparison to 90 in 2018. Guy’s Hill has not contributed to that figure. However, there are a number of sexual offences, domestic violence, and praedial larceny recorded,” said Corporal Brown-Thompson, the reigning LASCO Top Cop.

She further said: “There is no doubt that, in recent times, we have at times failed to attain the lofty expectations of our various stakeholders. We are aware of what those expectations are, but it must be noted that we are operating at a deficit. We could be far more effective and efficient if we were to have more resources – human and otherwise. Notwithstanding the myriad challenges, we have committed our efforts to being a force for good.”

Corporal Brown-Thompson was speaking on Tuesday, November 19, at an International Men’s Day Award Ceremony, which she hosted inside the Town Hall at Guy’s Hill.
