EWARTON: Residents, sponsors repair road to school in Mount Rosser

Teachers and students of Mount Rosser Primary and Infant School in the Ewarton area of St Catherine now have an improved roadway on which to travel, thanks to community-spirited residents and corporate citizens.

The repair of Mount Rosser/Ivy road, which culminated on Labour Day, is said to be ‘very important’ to stakeholders who appreciate the value of education and the comfort of teachers and students.

President of The Mount Rosser Community Association (MRCA), Jason Chambers, said the group lobbied for the road rehabilitation project because the said infrastructure leading to the school was in a poor condition.

“It was damaged real bad by water and so forth,” he told The Beacon, adding: “Doing this project is a great thing in the community – giving us a road to the school, because education is key.”

Chambers expressed gratitude to the various stakeholders who made the project possible.

They include Rio Tinto Alcan, Jamaica Bauxite Institute, hardware owner Daniel Tingling, and past-students such as Newton Amos who funded lunch for workers on Labour Day.

Chambers noted that the main sponsor of the project, Rio Tinto Alcan, contributed resources valued at some $500,000. He added that Rio Tinto – a wastewater treatment plant in Mount Rosser, also provides jobs for several area residents, and is a regular sponsor of the community’s football team and other initiatives.
