There is a strong sense of joy and pride permeating the atmosphere at Rosemount Primary School in Linstead, St Catherine.

One of the main reasons is that Deputy Head Girl, Vanessa Hunter, has scored a 94.4 percent average in the Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT).

She is eager to start wearing the St Andrew High School for Girls uniform.

Camille Grange, GSAT teacher at Rosemount Primary, is elated.

“I am extremely proud right now that Vanessa did put in the work, and the fact that she was successful. She got the school of her choice.”

The teacher told Jamaica Beacon that the students, in general, did better in GSAT this year.

“Compared to the last four years, I would say it is a great improvement. It was good. It could have been better, but I am proud of the students,” she declared.

She explained that, to prepare the students, she used past papers, ensured that they remained motivated, placed emphasis on subjects that the students would have faced in GSAT, and also provided extra lessons.

Meanwhile, Vanessa’s mother, Alfa Levers, promised to continue embracing her daughter’s quest for a sound education. The child’s father, Dean Hunter, is also supportive.

Vanessa has been on the school’s honour roll since about Grade 3, the mother said, adding that she wants her daughter to remain on the right path.

“She knows that the work just begins,” the mother noted.

“I am very elated about the results because my daughter did extremely well.”

Vanessa scored 93 percent in Language Arts, 89 percent in Mathematics, 93 percent in Science, 97 percent in Social Studies, and 100 percent in Communication Task.

“I am very happy with the results,” Vanessa told Jamaica Beacon.

“I worked very hard on my school work, and I paid attention in my classes.”

She is committed to the task required to fulfill her dream of becoming a psychologist.
