A second police constable has been arrested on suspicion of larceny of motor vehicle, arising from different incidents this month.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) said it made the latter arrest in Spanish Town, St Catherine, today, June 21.

It explained: “Reports from the Spanish Town police are that, about 1:45pm today, the constable who is attached to the St James Division was in the process of selling a Nissan AD Wagon.”

“During the transaction, the prospective buyer became suspicious when discrepancies were discovered with the documents allegedly registered to the vehicle,” the JCF continued.

“The police were summoned and an investigation immediately launched, which revealed that the vehicle was reported stolen in Portmore, St Catherine, on Thursday, June 14.”

“The motorcar was seized and the constable taken into custody. However, his identity has been withheld pending further investigation,” added the JCF, which noted that the Inspectorate of Constabulary is also investigating.

Previous incident

Meanwhile, in the first incident this month, the JCF previously reported that it arrested a police constable in Trelawny on June 11 for suspicion of larceny of motor vehicle.

It explained that the owner of the vehicle discovered that it was missing from a Kingston address and made a report to the Rollington Town police.

The vehicle was found in the cop’s possession during an investigation.
