The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) said police have charged the fisherman who they believe is a major player in the illegal drug-for-guns trade.

He is 34-year-old Gaffi Daley from Portmore in St Catherine.

The JCF said Daley has been charged with possession of ganja, dealing in ganja, use to conveyance, taking steps preparatory to export ganja, and conspiracy.

The Narcotics Police said they seized 490 pounds of ganja during an operation at the intersection of Lakes Pen and Municipal Boulevard in St Catherine on Sunday, June 3.

The JCF explained: “Reports are that, about 9:30pm, a team of officers was on operation in the area when they signaled the driver of a motor vehicle to stop.”

“The driver complied and the vehicle was searched, during which nine knitted bags containing 43 parcels with the illicit drug was seized. The ganja has an estimated street value of approximately JA$1.9 million,” added the JCF.

It said Daley is to appear before the St Catherine Parish Court on Tuesday, June 12.
