The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) said the Narcotics Police have charged the three men who were detained on Sunday (June 10) at Parotee in St Elizabeth.

They are 34-year-old Neville Brooks, 27-year-old Malcolm Foster, and 38-year-old Omar Brown, all farmers from Slipe district in the parish.

They are charged jointly with the offences of Possession of Ganja, Dealing in Ganja, Taking Steps Preparatory to Export Ganja, Use of Conveyance, and Conspiracy.

The JCF report that, about 9:30pm on June 10, the Narcotics Police were conducting operations in the area when they saw a group of men off-loading several knitted bags from a Hiace bus.

Upon seeing the police, the men ran, but were subsequently accosted.

Police said the bus was searched and 24 knitted bags containing 121 packages of compressed ganja weighing approximately 1,200 pounds were seized. The estimated street value of the illicit drug is JA$48,000,000.

The Hiace bus, a Honda CRV motorcar and a Toyota Altis motorcar were also seized.

The men were interviewed in the presence of their attorneys yesterday before being charged.

They are scheduled to appear before the St Elizabeth Parish Court on Monday, June 18.
