2 cops charged with corruption allegedly wanted bigger bribe
July 17, 2018Two constables from the St Andrew South Police Division have been slapped with corruption charges, said the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA).
They are Shemoy Brooks and Theodore Blake.
MOCA alleged that, on 26 June 2018, the two constables contacted a motorist and solicited money for the return of his motor vehicle documents.
Two days later, the three men met.
The police officers were offered $3,000, but they allegedly rejected that amount. They subsequently agreed on the sum of $8,000.
A date and time were set for the money to be handed over.
MOCA received a report and conducted a covert operation, during which Constable Brooks allegedly was seen collecting the $8,000 from the motorist on 29 June 2018.
He was later arrested, charged and brought before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Thursday July 5.
He was offered bail in the sum of $350,000 with surety and travel restrictions.
Constable Blake, in the meantime, was later arrested and placed on an Identification Parade where he was positively identified, resulting in him being charged.
He will appear in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court tomorrow, July 18.
