3 dead, baby among injured in 3 crashes on Saturday

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) said two men and a female pedestrian died today, August 4, in separate motor vehicle accidents in Clarendon, St Mary and Hanover.

Two persons, including a baby, were injured.

The JCF said the deceased are 47-year-old Colene Carter from Golden Grove in St Mary, Hubert Bailey whose address was not given, and Marcus Barnes from Kingston 11.

Kingston motorcyclist dies in Hanover

The Kingston man, Marcus Barnes, died in the first crash that took place before daybreak at Norman Manley Boulevard in Hanover.

The JCF explained: “Reports are that, about 4:45am, Barnes was driving a motorcycle along the boulevard when it collided with a BMW motorcar. The police were summoned and Barnes was taken to hospital where death was confirmed. Investigation continues.”

Grandmother killed in St Mary

The second crash happened this afternoon at Golden Grove district, St Mary.

The victim, 47-year-old Colene Carter, from Golden Grove died while her three-year-old granddaughter is hospitalized.

The JCF said: “Reports are that, about 3pm, Carter and her grand-daughter were walking in the community when it is alleged that the driver of a Toyota Corolla motorcar lost control of the vehicle and collided with the two.

“The police were summoned and they were taken to hospital where Carter was pronounced dead and her granddaughter admitted in critical condition,” the JCF said, adding that investigations are continuing.

Truck crashes into tree in Clarendon

Meanwhile, the third accident, in which Hubert Bailey died and another man was injured, transpired in Clarendon.

It happened along the Bustamante Highway.

The JCF said: “Reports are that, about 3:30pm, Bailey was a passenger in a Toyota Hiace motor truck when the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided into a tree.

“The police were summoned and, on their arrival, both men were taken to hospital where Bailey was pronounced dead and the other man admitted,” added the JCF, which said the May Pen Police are investigating.
